Benevolent Beers: EASE

We team up with EASE and BMC for another night of Benevolent Beers! A portion of each sale made between 5:00pm and 8:00pm will go directly to this great organization.

A little about them:

The Bayfront Maritime Center is the home of EASE, The Erie Adaptive Sailing Experience, the first and only adaptive sailing program in Pennsylvania. EASE, now in its 21st year, meets for 9 consecutive Fridays beginning in late June and running until the 2nd week in August.

Although this year due to COVID and lack of funding, EASE could only meet 3 times. Sailing begins at 9:00 a.m. with 8 back-to-back one-hour sessions, ending at approximately 4:30 p.m. Set up begins at 8:30 and takedown is complete by 5:30. A single volunteer usually puts in approximately 8 hours every Friday. Participants pay $100 for a 4-week session (please note fees have not increased in over 10 years). They are provided a one-on-one sailing lesson with an experienced instructor.

EASE also provides a pontoon boat for families, friends and/or support staff to ride on during the sailor’s lesson. Volunteers are trained by certified physical therapists in lifting procedures (Hoyer lift and 2-man lifts) for individuals with physical disabilities. Volunteers are also trained in on and off shore water rescue techniques. Volunteers not employed in the education/healthcare sector are asked to provide appropriate clearances for working with children. Our program runs entirely on sailor’s fees, community and individual donations (monetary and otherwise) and grants.

With the full support of the Bayfront Maritime Center and the support of the Erie community, the Erie Adaptive Sailing Experience is committed to serving children and adults with special needs in the Erie region who are unable to access the waters of Lake Erie. We look forward to continuing to serve the recreational needs of children and adults in the future through the support of local businesses like yours.
