Pop-Up Gallery: Between Stone & Shadow

As part of the third Erie Art Museum Gallery Night of 2026, Between Stone and Shadow is a collection of prints by Brian Amick, who has been creating art for more than 40 years. This collection is inspired by history, medieval fantasy, gothic horror, nature, and ups and downs of this so called life in general.

"I like creating prints because they slow me down. Every cut is permanent, and each piece becomes a conversation between planning and instinct. Whether depicting a Roman general, a landscape, or my view of the world, every print reflects my own perspective.

Growing up, I spent more time drawing in the margins of my notebooks than taking notes. I loved perspective drawing because it made it feel possible to build entire cities, castles, and imagined worlds from a blank sheet of paper. I was voted Most Artistic in both eighth grade and my senior year of high school, eventually earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Media Arts from Edinboro University. Somewhere along the way, I let that part of myself fade into the shadows. Over the past six to seven years, I've intentionally found my way back to it.

Although my professional life centers on digital design, traditional forms of art give me the opportunity to slow down and create with my hands. I hope these prints invite you to the inner workings of my brain."
